Stories: Excerpt 2

“Let go,” I moaned as the person dragged me down the road. I couldn’t see Lyn anymore, but I could still see the car, how it was flipped over and that’s when I noticed that oil was leaking out of the car. I remember how car explodes when oil leaks out in movies. I screamed, shouting Lyn’s name, and I scratched the person’s hand.
He cried. It was a man.
“Let me go,” I screamed again. “Please.”
But he ignored me.
“Please,” I begged again, looking at the car. Then fire blazed up from the end of the car. I screamed, kicking everywhere. Then the fire went to the front of the car, where Lyn was. I cried her name, but I couldn’t see her.
The car exploded. I screamed at the top of my lung. And then I was knocked out.

I screamed, sitting up on my bed. My breath was unsteady and I was sweating all over. I was heaving.
The door slammed open. Kristi ran in and leaped onto my bed.
“Are you alright,” she asked. I tried to swallow, but my throat and lungs burned.
“I’m... fine,” I said managing the words out since my throat is on fire.
“I heard you screaming, I was afraid...,” she started.
“I’m fine, just a bad dream,” I answered trying to comfort her. I knew that I have given her a lot of trouble ever since I moved in.
She pleaded with her eyes. “Please, Mallory, it was not your fault... for... what happen, just don’t... blame yourself.”
I looked out the window as the moonlight shine through my window. “You should go back to sleep, you have work tomorrow.”
She smiled. “Yeah, I do, good night.”
She tucked me under the covers. “Good night,” I whispered and I watched as she took one last peek at me before closing the door.
I slept on my side and continue to look out the window. I shut my eyes as I listened as the wind blew against my window.
