“Are you alright,” he asked still holding my arm.
“Yeah, I’m fine, it’s probably because I didn’t eat breakfast this morning,” I whispered. I looked away so he didn’t have to see my horrified expression. I doubt he knew what I was and this whole brainstorming topic thing began way before I even came to this school.
“Oh okay, but don’t you think that this is going to be a good topic,” Carson asked. I nodded.
I waited on line to get my lunch. Everybody around me was thinking and talking about the new teacher in school. I ignored them as I got my lunch. Just then a interesting thought came from the lunch lady. It’s my birthday and nobody even said Happy Birthday to me yet. I’m going to kick their ass if they don’t say it by the end of the day.
I smiled, it seemed like everybody forgot about her birthday. After she gave a slice of pizza, I leaned in and whispered, “Happy Birthday.” She looked at me, like I was getting something wrong. Then she softens and smiled back at me. “Thank you.” I smiled and headed toward the cafeteria.
“Alex,” someone called from behind. I turned around and saw Leeann standing up and waving at me to get my attention. I walked slowly up to her table.
“Hey,” I greeted as I walked up against the table. I took a seat across from her. Next to Leeann was September, an orange hair girl that somewhat looked like Victoria Beckham.
“This September, and September this is Alex,” Leeann introduced us.
“Hi September, I love your name,” I said trying to act dumb since I already knew why she was call September.
“Oh thanks, I, uh, really don’t like it,” September whispered back. She stoke her fork into her salad.
“Why,” I asked her, biting the tip of the pizza.
“Her mom named her September because she was born in the month of September,” Leeann whispered in my ear. I smiled.
“You shouldn’t dislike your name, I think at least it has a meaning to it,” I informed and I saw September’s face brighten up.
She smiled. “Call me Sept, you know for short.”
“Hi, Sept,” I said and I chewed on my pizza.
“Hey,” someone said and came toward our table. He took a seat right next to September. “I see we’ve met a sexy new girl.” He gave me a wink.
I smiled and behind him was Carson. He took a seat right next to me.
“I’m Dilson,” he said smiling and dazzling me. I bet I could make this girl go crazy over me. My smile works on every girl. Bet she’s dazzle already.
“I’m Alex,” I said. “By the way, you’re not dazzling me.” I could see the disappointment on his face. Carson smiled at me.
“Man, you got rejected,” Leeann shouted and people that were sitting on the tables behind us were looking at us.
“Stop drawing attention to yourself,” Dilson shouted. September and Carson rolled their eyes.
“Are they like this all the time,” I whispered into Carson’s ear.
He smiled. “Yes.”
“I’m getting out of here before they start a food fight,” Sept said and she got up moving toward the staircase.
“How about you,” I asked Carson.
“Come on let’s ditch them,” he said and we grabbed our things while they were still arguing with each other.
“So why did you move here,” Carson asked as we were walking up the stairs.
“Maybe because I wanted a normal life,” I answered watching my legs moving up the stairs swiftly. “I guess I didn’t like my old life.”
“Oh, seems like a sad story,” he whispered. I shrugged.
“Okay, my turn to ask questions,” I said. “Do you live with your parents?”
He smiled at me. “Yeah, how about you?”
“No, I don’t, live with my maid, Sally,” I answered. I could feel him staring at me confused. For some reason when I’m around him I don’t feel like using magic or the mind reading him. It makes me feel accomplish about things.
“What happen to your parents,” he asked.
“Oh they travel around the world most of the time,” I said. “I mean like all the time, I hardly see them once a year.”
“Okay, do you have any sibling,” he asked. I could feel that the spotlight light was once again on me, but I didn’t really care.
“Yeah, I do, I have a sister. She lives with my aunt in Wyoming,” I whispered and hold tight to the strap around my messenger bag.
“Seems like I make you nervous,” he said pointing at the way how I was clutching my strap. I let it go.
“No, it’s just that I don’t really like the past,” I whispered and picked my head up and saw that we were only on the third floor. “Uh, I think we’re late, so why not hurry up, I’m not willing to get detention for being late twice in a row.”
“Sure,” he said and we shut-up while we ran upstairs.
“I thought you wanted to be normal,” Sally said putting the watermelon into the fruit salad.
“I am,” I answered and took a bite on the apple.
“But, apparently, you’re still using your mind reading thing,” she said and she stuck her tongue out to show me that her tongue was burning from the coldness of the watermelon. I laughed.
“What did you do, put the watermelon at the degree of 6 Fahrenheit,” I joked.
She frowned, “I was trying to see if it was right if you stick your tongue out on a frozen watermelon, your tongue would get stuck. Unfortunately, it didn’t work.”
I laughed. “Who told you this stupid stuff and made out smart, witch Sally fall for it?”
“I didn’t fall for it, I was just trying to see...,” she said, but she faded in her words. She put vinegar into the bowl.
“Ew, you put vinegar in it,” I screeched squeezing my nose so I wouldn’t inhale the smell of vinegar.
“What you like it before,” she started, but I interrupted her.
“Yeah, before I knew you actually put vinegar in that shit,” I said pointing at the fruit salad that was all smelly from vinegar. “I’m starting to think my smelling and tasting sense has some problems.”
“Seriously, you’re weird,” she said and shook her head. “So your birthday is coming up, whatcha planning to do?”
“Nothing.”
“What did I just hear nothing,” she bellowed. “I mean seriously hardly anyone gets a chance to celebrate their 421st birthday and trust me on that one.”
“Yeah, not like you have a chance of that,” I pointed out.
“You’re making me jealous,” she said narrowing her eyes. “I wish I was an immortal.”
I glared at her. “No, no, I don’t mean like I want to be one, but I’m just saying what it would be like if you could love forever and then you get all bore and stuff, then you get to celebrate you 500th birthday, that would’ve been cool.”
“No, it won’t and by the way you have run on sentence, so that makes it worse,” I said and picked up my bottle of water.
“Thank god, you’re not an English teacher or the students you have are gonna to commit suicide.”
“Right, that sounds more like you.”
“You make me sound old.”
“You are old, you’re twenty one, while I’m only eighteen, but technically on the high school application I said I was seventeen.”
“You’re making me more jealous.”
“Am I, I’m sorry, perhaps you could get away with seventeen too, it’s not like you’re that old.”
“Aww, you’re so sweet,” she said and she glided right next to me; putting her hand on my face.
“That’s so gay,” I whispered and I grabbed my things and headed to my bedroom at the end of the hall. I’m kind of scare of those two floors house, even though I’m the scariest thing you could find, but I’m just so use to mom’s scary stories that she use to tell me when I was a little kid. I dropped my things to a nearby closet, since I have like a ton of them in here. My phone rungs and I realized that I didn’t recognize the phone number neither did my phone.
“Hello,” I greeted to whoever it was on the other end of the phone.
“Hey Alex,” he said. Uh I should have said who I was first. I’m retarded.
I recognize who it was after hearing the thoughts.
“Carson?”
“Hey you’re awesome, how did you know who I was?”
“Recognize your voice.”
“Never lie to you about anything.”
There was silence.
“So what are you calling for,” I asked breaking the silence.
“Oh, I was hoping you would agree on the idea of the topic that we are doing for the technology class,” he said.
I remembered what it was.
